Trevor Rees-Jones is the former bodyguard of Diana, Princess of Wales, who was present in the car accident that took her life.
Rees-Jones was born on 3 March 1968 in Rinteln, West Germany. He was born to Colin Rees, a surgeon in the British Army, and Gill, a nurse. He has two brothers, Gareth and John.
He moved from Germany to Oswestry, and in 1987, Rees-Jones enlisted in the 1st Battalion of the Parachute Regiment.
What Happened To Trevor Rees-Jones?
Princess Diana's bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones was seriously injured in the car crash that killed her. He was the sole survivor of the accident that claimed the life of The Princess's boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and the car's driver, Henri Paul.
The incident occurred on 31 August 1997, at the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France, when Paul lost control of the vehicle at the underpass entrance. The car traveled at an estimated 105 km/h – over twice the tunnel's 50 km/h speed limit.

The car collided head-on with a pillar that supported the roof and spun and hit the stone wall of the tunnel backward before coming to a stop. Paul was later found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.75 grams per liter of blood, which is about 3.5 times the legal limit in France.
Rees-Jones was partly saved by the airbag that functioned properly during the collision. Upon police's arrival, he was still conscious and had suffered multiple serious facial injuries and a head contusion.
After being rushed to the hospital, Rees-Jones fell into a coma for ten days, broke every bone in his face, and had memory loss. Surgeons reconstructed his face by looking at an old photo and used 150 titanium parts to piece him back together.
He returned to the United Kingdom on 3 October 1997, after a month in the Paris hospital. It was widely rumored that he had lost his tongue in the crash, which was later discarded. The operation took approximately 10 hours to restore his jaw to a normal condition.
At that time, he could only communicate by whispering and writing down. Nearly a year later, he resigned from his job as a bodyguard on 19 May 1998.

Following the full recovery from his injuries, Rees-Jones moved to north Shropshire and worked in a small family-run sportswear shop in Oswestry.
He went on to write a book with the help of ghostwriter Moira Johnston and published it in 2000. The book, titled The Bodyguard's Story: Diana, the Crash, and the Sole Survivor, chronicled his experiences with the incident. It reconstructed the events from Rees-Jones's partial memories.
On 15 February 2003, he remarried Ann Scott, a Belvidere School, Shrewsbury teacher. They married in a ceremony held in Welshpool, Wales.
